Café Capeltic. Building an intercultural bridge in the Jesuit University System of Mexico.

This text analyzes the social and solidarity economy project that makes up the Capeltic coffee shops and its potential to strengthen interculturality in the Jesuit University System. It is based on an exploration of the cooperatives involved in the production chain of coffee sold on campus and the imaginaries about the different stages of this process. Data were collected through participant observation and interviews with coffee growers, cooperative members and consumers. The role of young people as the main creators of intercultural bridges between the Tseltal communities where coffee is grown and the university communities where it is consumed is highlighted.

The Senses of the Fair and the Fair of the Senses in Seville, Spain

In this article we propose that the April Fair in Seville, Spain, is a multisensory, synaesthetic and synesthetic experience that reaffirms Sevillian identity and highlights identity boundaries between locals and visitors, while underlining local social differences. Drawing on the work of Paul Stoller and David Sutton, as well as our fieldwork in Seville between 2017 and 2025, we describe the synaesthetic and synesthetic experience of the Feria de Abril as dimensions that invoke “the Sevillian.” We argue that the recognition of sensory experience contributes to a complex anthropological approach to the political dimension of local events.

The Shameless Cuir Cult: Ritual recreations based on performance

The aim of this essay is to give an account of one of the ways in which feminist and lgbtq+ believers, who belong or were socialized in different religious-spiritual traditions, primarily evangelical, resymbolize the sacred and the political through performance in the framework of what the group Theology Without Shame calls Cuir Cult. It addresses issues such as female ancestry, trans baptisms, criticism of ecosieg and sexual freedom, in a context of growing anti-feminist and anti-gender conservatism.

Where two souls heal, a photographic essay on the animita as an artifact of healing in the Chilean everyday life

This photographic essay explores the phenomenon of animitas in Chile, small popular altars erected for the souls of tragically deceased persons. Over time, these have begun to occupy a role that goes beyond the commemorative. They are not only visited by the loved ones of the deceased, but also by neighbors and other practitioners of popular religiosity, giving them a relevant place in the healing of body and spirit.
