Irma A. Velasquez Nimatuj She is a Maya-K'iche ', journalist and social anthropologist; author of the books Indigenous peoples, the state and the struggle for land in Guatemala: Survival and negotiation strategies in the face of globalized inequality and Guatemala's commercial indigenous petty bourgeoisie: class, race and gender inequalities, in addition to multiple articles in books and academic journals. Her investigative and journalistic works focus on documenting the multiple structural oppressions towards women and indigenous peoples in Latin American states. Since 2003 he has been a weekly columnist for the newspaper the newspaper. In Guatemala, he has served as an expert in transitional justice trials. Since 2008, together with Peter Marchetti, he established the Indigenous Youth Scholarship at AVANCSO. He is currently the Craig M. Cogut Visiting Professor of Latin American Studies at Brown University.
