Since its foundation, the editorial project of Encartes contemplated the mission of promoting research done with diverse registers. Issue 16 marks eight years of publication and presents the dossier "Image, memory and representation" with seven articles by RIAV-CIESAS that explore the relevance of images in the configuration of memories and identity imaginaries, ranging from pictorial art and photographic archives to popular traditions such as carnival and dance.

This issue of Encartes, now indexed by Scielo Mexico, addresses migration along the Darien-Tapachula route, showing the difficulties faced by migrants, ethnographic methodologies en route and survival strategies. It also includes articles on conspiracy theorists, indigenous cultural practices and a debate on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Indigenous communitarianisms are not only vestiges of the past and tradition. From them emanate models to face the contemporary world by providing alternatives of social organization that offer communitarianism, self-sustainable models in the face of the environmental crisis generated by capitalist extractivism, revolutionary projects, as well as avant-garde artistic and literary expressions.

The 13th issue of Encartes magazine is dedicated to a dossier whose central theme is soundscapes. It is a fact that there is no celebration without sound and that sonority always accompanies traditions; however, what is new is the special attention that this sonority has received in anthropology as well as in sociology and geography. This interest is not limited to the recognition of its emotionally experienced effects, but also to the way in which sensorial cultural productions are capable of transforming a territory. This is precisely what the concept of soundscapes is all about.

We hope that the twelfth edition of Encartes will stimulate critical and informed reflections on some topics that are the subject of academic controversy and that should be open to debate. We wish to

Including images, voices and sounds does not detract from academic rigor, nor does it weaken the critical voice, but rather amplifies it and gives it tones that lead science towards sensory-thinking uses and appropriations. In this journey of eleven issues we have managed to make this project, which was perceived as unthinkable, become a reality: the consolidation of an alternative way of communicating science in a different way.
