Claudia C. Zamorano Villarreal holds a degree in urban planning and a diploma in urban geography, in 1999 she obtained a Ph. D. in Social Sciences with a specialization in urban studies from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS). Since 2000 she has been a research professor at CIESAS Mexico City. Urban issues are her main interest, focusing on residential practices of workers and middle classes, urban social movements and the anthropology of urban (in)security. In 2011 she was a visiting researcher at the City University of New York (CUNY). In 2014 her book Vivienda Mínima Obrera en México Posrevolucionario: apropiaciones de una utopía urbana won the award for best research in Social Anthropology from the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia. Since 2016 she is responsible for a Conacyt Basic Science project on urban securitization practices in the Valley of Mexico.
