Karina Felitti She has a doctorate in History from the University of Buenos Aires. CONICET associate researcher at the Interdisciplinary Institute for Gender Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, University of Buenos Aires. Her research topics cover the history of women and sexualities in Argentina; sexual and reproductive rights in Latin America and religion, spirituality, sexuality and politics. She also works as a trainer in public teacher training programs on comprehensive sexuality education. She is the author of The Pill Revolution. Sexuality and politics in the Argentina of the sixties (Edhasa, 2012) and coordinator of several books, among them: Teaching and learning in intercultural contexts. Knowledge, tools and experiences of international education (Miño and Dávila, 2018); Diversity, sexualities and beliefs. Body and rights in the contemporary world (Prometeo / Colegio Mexiquense, 2015); Mother there is not only one. Maternity experiences in Argentina (Ciccus, 2012).

Green handkerchiefs for legal abortion: history, meanings and circulations in Argentina and Mexico

The green scarf is distinctive of the National Campaign for the Right to Free and Safe Legal Abortion of Argentina. Historical heir to the white scarf of the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo, in 2018 it was adopted as an emblem that articulates the claims for reproductive rights in Latin America. This article investigates its history and the relationship it weaves with the human rights movement and the transnationalization of feminisms, with a focus on its circulation in Argentina and Mexico. We suggest that the green scarf, as a traveling symbol and cognitive bridge, ties together different identities and modes of political intervention of contemporary feminisms, identifies and mobilizes, and at the same time leaves particularities and differences in latency, opens up to new alliances, generates debates and produces responses.

Out of blood brings together eleven essays that analyze the culture and politics of menstruation and connect them with identity politics (feminism, anti-racism, queer subjectivities), body awareness and knowledge, social inequities and the possibilities of transformation that they generate activisms and solidarity that are woven based on the body. From an interdisciplinary approach that combines feminist theory, social sciences, psychotherapy discourses, cultural studies, trans, sexuality and gender studies, Fahs wonders in what ways ordinary bodily processes can have implications for social justice and the construction of new menstrual stories, individually and collectively.
