VII Encartes Photography Contest. Images that resist: regimes of visibility and other possible landscapes.

Call for photographs that propose new ways of looking at violence, alternatives to build memory, care and resistance in our daily realities.

We live in an era marked by media saturation: images surround us, capture us, turn us into visual hostages. The spectacularization of horror threatens to anesthetize the gaze, repeating to exhaustion scenes of pain and violence that immobilize us. In this context, it becomes urgent to ask ourselves not only what we see, but how we look. What regimes of visibility dictate what appears and what remains hidden? What truths are imposed through the dominant images?

Encartes invites you to participate in the Photo Contest 2026 with images that explore poetics of the gaze capable of destabilizing the dominant logics of representation and opening cracks towards other possible sensibilities.. We are interested in receiving photographs that question the limits of the visible and that, in their aesthetic gesture, give back to the image its power of invention, memory and resistance.

We are interested in receiving photographs that do not express violence or suffering in a crude mannerbut to propose ways of looking from the perspective of resistance, care, memory or daily life.

They can be, for example:

  • Portraits that capture gestures of accompaniment, affection or solidarity in difficult contexts.
  • Landscapes or spaces marked by absence, loss or the imprint of time.
  • Everyday objects or scenes that reveal discrete forms of resistance or reconstruction of the commonplace.
  • Interventions, marches or collective practices that reconfigure the sense of the visible.
  • Images created with Artificial Intelligence will not be accepted.

The objective of this contest is to to show, through photography, ways of seeing that resist the spectacularization of horror and try out other ethical-political community horizons.. We invite photographers, visual artists, students, researchers, collectives and communities to submit images that problematize the relationship between gaze, power and memory in our contexts.
